It isn’t a secret that cybersecurity is critical for businesses today, at every level of their infrastructure. However, some recent data has been shared that very clearly outlines just how important visibility into your infrastructure really is. In case you hadn’t picked up on this, it’s very important.
Enterprise Vulnerabilities are Pretty Bad, According to Data
The State of the Cybersecurity Attack Surface report, as compiled by Sevco Security, assimilated data from more than 500,000 IT assets from enterprise-level businesses. This data showed that many of the assets that these businesses rely on each and every day were missing critical endpoint protections, or were lacking critical patches.
The research revealed that, of the surveyed businesses, 12% lacked endpoint protections while 5% lacked the requisite enterprise patch management. On top of all this, 19% of their Windows servers were missing endpoint protections as well.
These enterprise organizations also demonstrated that “stale” IT—or assets that are recognized by the security control console and are registered as installed on a device, despite that device not checking back in—is another issue that some enterprises struggle with. 3% of IT assets showed stale endpoint protections, with 1% presenting stale patch management. What’s worse, because they are supposedly checked out and approved, issues like these are more challenging to find and resolve before they create problems.
It’s important to remember that this research was focused on enterprise-level companies, with enterprise capabilities. Can your business say the same about its IT?
